What this site does

The site has one public page describing our product, a newsletter signup, and this policy.

There are no user accounts, no file uploads, no payments, no comments, and no user profiles.

What we collect

We collect two things: your email address if you sign up for the newsletter, and a count of page views.

1. Newsletter

If you want our newsletter, you give us your email address. That is the only thing we ask for.

Our lawful basis is your consent.

We use double opt-in. When you sign up, we store your address as unconfirmed and send you a confirmation email. Your address is only marked confirmed when you click the link in that email. If you never click it, we never send you the newsletter.

For each subscriber we store:

  • the email address
  • the date and time the subscription was confirmed
  • a version identifier that records the exact wording of the consent you were shown

We keep the version identifier so we can show what you actually agreed to.

Every email we send has a working one-click unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe by emailing us. Unsubscribing costs you nothing and needs no explanation.

How long we keep it:

  • If you never confirm: we delete your address 7 days after signup.
  • While you are subscribed: we keep your address until you unsubscribe.
  • After you unsubscribe: we do not delete your address outright. We move it to a suppression list — a record whose only purpose is to make sure we never email you again. We keep the suppression list for as long as we run the newsletter.

The suppression list exists so that your opt-out actually sticks. If we simply deleted your address, we would have no way of knowing you had asked us to stop, and you could end up back on the list later. Our lawful basis for keeping it is legitimate interest: honouring your opt-out.

We do not use the suppression list for anything else. We never email the addresses on it, and we never share it.

If you would rather we erase your address completely instead of suppressing it, email us and say so. We will do it — but we will no longer have a record that you opted out.

2. Page views

We count page views on our own server.

We do not use third-party analytics. We do not use advertising pixels. We do not track you across other websites. We do not use cookies for this.

For each page view we store:

  • the path of the page you looked at
  • the time
  • a hashed value

The hashed value is made from your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string, combined with a secret salt. We rotate the salt every day and overwrite the previous day’s salt. This means old hashes cannot be reversed, and a visit today cannot be linked to a visit tomorrow.

We do this to count how many people visit, so we can tell whether the site is working.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interest. Our interest is knowing whether anyone is reading the site. We think this is a fair trade because the data is hashed, short-lived, and never used to build a profile of you or to follow you elsewhere. You can object to it at any time — see “Your rights” below.

How long we keep it: 12 months, then deleted.

Cookies

We set no cookies. Not one.

If you switch the site between light and dark mode, that preference is saved in your browser’s local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Who else handles the data

We use a few companies to run the site. They only process data on our instructions.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what data we hold about you
  • correct it
  • delete it
  • give you a copy of it
  • stop processing it, where we rely on legitimate interest (the page view counting)

You can withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

One thing to know about deletion: when you unsubscribe, we keep your address on a suppression list so we never email you again. If you ask us to delete your data, we will assume you want that record kept, because deleting it would put you at risk of being emailed again. If you would rather we erase it completely, say so in your email and we will.

To do any of this, email privacy@monkeyinspo.com.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority in your country.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us their email address, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
